BECK & FRIENDS KICK INXS

Beck's newest "Record Club" installment is a fantastical take on INXS' 1987 classic Kick.  Along for the ride this time are Annie Clark from St. Vincent, Liars, and Os Mutantes.  Check out the video below of the supergroup rocking out to the album opener, "Guns in the Sky".

HAITI RELIEF - Artists Unite for HEAR TO HELP

As the support for Haiti from the music industry continues to pour out, Filter Magazine and American Eagle Outfitters have teamed up to release Hear to Help, an amazing benefit compilation featuring the likes of Beck, Vampire Weekend, Julian Casablancas, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and one of my favorites, Charlotte Gainsbourg.  The disc is packed with great remixes and some tasty covers, such as Of Montreal taking on Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol revamping Bright Eyes. The CD is currently available in all American Eagle stores through March 19, and will be available through the stores website starting tomorrow.  All proceeds will go to Oxfam America, so please donate by purchasing this great disc.

Beck's Record Club with Feist & Nels Cline

Record Club: Skip Spence "Weighted Down" from Beck Hansen on Vimeo.

As previously reported by the Boombox, Beck's latest Record Club installment covers Skip Spence's 1969 folk album, Oar, and Mr Hansen recently posted this video of his version of "Weighted Down (The Prison Song)" which features Leslie Feist on lead vocals, and Nels Cline getting celestial on acoustic guitar.  Great stuff here... can't wait for the whole project to be released.  Enjoy!

Mindbending New Videos from Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck, Vampire Weekend

Check out this bizarre new video for "Heaven Can Wait" from the upcoming Charlotte Gainsbourg/Beck project IRM, due January 26th.  That would be MRI in French, and after watching this video, I can only imagine the brain power behind this album.  Enjoy.

And then there is this little nugget from Vampire Weekend.  As if "Horchata" wasn't already stuck in our heads, the band has released a video for the second single "Cousins" from Contra, out January 12.  Enjoy the ride, literally.

Coolest Man on the Planet is...

Beck.  Yeah, that's the end of the sentence. There was never a voting process.

It's hard to tell whether this project will be released or whether its just for shits and giggles, but what Mr. Beck Hansen has done the last few months is pretty uncanny.  His Record Club is surely to become the stuff of legend, with soldiers like Nigel Godrich, Devendra Banhart, Binki Shapiro (Little Joy), actor Giovanni Ribissi and others getting together to record tracks from Velvet Underground & Nico.  Members of MGMT have also been in the Club studio lately recording, which is downright frightening.  Now, Wilco, Feist, and Jamie Lidell have been recruited to record a new vision of Skip Spence's Oar.

Hear "Little Hands" while you patiently wait for the rest.
