M.I.A : Can You Hear Me Now??

Musical thunderclap M.I.A. will release the follow-up album to 2007 smash Kala this summer.  Details are slim, but Baltimore producer Blaqstarr is deeply involved, and with track titles like "I Fight the Ones That Fight Me", the album is sure to be full of MIA's typical aggro-jamboree dance anthems.  One track, called "I'm Down Like Your Internet Connection", features actual Philipino Verizon Wireless workers singing the hook, which is bizarrely awesome.

Last week, M.I.A. posted this strange video on her Twitter page, which is rumored to be another new song called "Space Oddity". Check it out.

New Gorillaz Album Details

Gorillaz will drop their long awaited new album, Plastic Beach, in the US on March 9th via Virgin.  Damon Albarn has reached out his genius hands and pulled in some pretty exciting guest musicians for the project, including Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, Lou Reed, Bobby Womack, De La Soul, and (!) Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of the Clash.  Gorillaz will headline one night of Coachella this Spring, and hopefully some more North American dates will surface soon.

Here the official stream of new Gorillaz single "Stylo" here.  The track features Mos Def & Bobby Womack.  Enjoy.

Boombox Plugs Back In...

Sorry for all the delays on the Gypsy Boombox blog.  Distractions are abound lately, but I will do my best to steer this train back in the right direction.  Thanks for the patience and, as always, thanks for reading!

Liars Get Remixed

Liars will release their fifth album, Sisterworld, on March 9 via Mute. As well, the trio will be releasing an alternate version of the album featuring a bonus disc filled with "remixes and reinterpretations" from meganames like Thom Yorke, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, and Bradford Cox from Deerhunter.  Remixes from the Melvins, Suicide's Alan Vega, and Blonde Redhead will also feature. Hear the space shattering new Liars' track "Scissor" here.

Of Montreal Mini-Tour

Indie freakshow Of Montreal will hit the East Coast later this month for 7 intimate shows, possibly to try out songs from their upcoming album, due this Spring.  Rumored titles for the album include False Priest and The Controller Sphere, while slated guests are Janelle Monae and Solange Knowles.  Should be interesting.

Wilco North American Dates

Wilco will hit the road next month for a two month tour of the US and Canada, with the shows being billed as "An Evening with Wilco".  The tour starts in the Northwest, ventures across the Midwest, and ends with some serious love for the East Coast.  Also, there are some very tasty venues on the tour, so don't miss it.  Tickets go on sale this weekend.  Check out the full list of Wilco tour dates after the jump.

New Islands Video featuring Michael Cera

The new Islands video for the track "No You Don't" features the always-awesome Michael Cera hallucinating his way through a bad trip and also showing some love for his native Canada.  The track is also pretty enjoyable, especially the last 90 seconds or so. Ch-Ch-Check it out..

Soundgarden Reunite. Hooray.

"The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!"  This according to Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell's Twitter on New Years Day. Cornell, along with original members Kim Thayil on guitar, Ben Shepherd on bass, and current Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, will apparently be reuniting for festival gigs in the spring and summertime.  Hopefully Cornell's balls will also return for these dates, since his latest projects have been less than inspiring.  Stop working with Timbaland, Chris, and start screaming at us again, please.

Vampire Weekend Tour

The new Vampire Weekend album, Contra, drops next Tuesday, and the band will be hitting the road to support said sophomore effort this Spring.  The entire album is also currently streaming on VW's Myspace.  CD-release shows in LA and New York next week will serve as a warm up for a European Tour, before the quartet returns to North America, kicking off the tour in Edmonton on March 14th and hitting most American markets.  Expect sweaters.
